PRINCIPALS REPORT:

To those children who have demonstrated persistence, confidence and growth in skill level it is worth reflecting on the following verse:

Winner’s Creed

If you think you are beaten, you are

If you think you dare not, you don’t;

If you’d like to win, but think you can’t

It’s almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,

For out in the world we find

Success begins with a person’s faith

It’s all in the state of mind.

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger or faster hand;

They go to the one who trusts in themselves

And always thinks “I CAN”.

Have faith in your abilities, persist with tasks and give everything your best.

As we wind down the end of this term I would like to acknowledge the fact that students have been extremely busy training and practicing for extra curricular activities such as; Dance Festival, Rugby League, Soccer and Talent Quest, on top of completing assessments. I am extremely proud of the efforts of all students as they prepare themselves for contests and performances. I am equally proud and thankful of the efforts of those staff involved in making these activities accessible to our children.

Yesterday the Senior Rugby League Team participated in the 2009 All Schools Paul Harragon Cup. The team played with strength of mind, determination and endurance to win every game in their pool, before going on to win the preliminary and semi-finals. After winning 8 consecutive games and remaining undefeated during the competition, our boys

played in the grand final against Blacksmiths, going down by one try. On behalf of the parents, Des Johnson the coach and myself, I would like to congratulate each and every one of the players for their commitment and thank them for the spirited effort.

Student reports will go home on Wednesday 8^th July and I would like to congratulate everyone on a wonderful effort for Semester 1. I encourage students and parents to read the comments carefully on the reports. Celebrate the successes of your child and discuss with them the areas that they will need to focus on for the second semester. Please note that it is the quality and strength of school/parent partnerships that significantly increases the social and academic development and well being of our children. When the school and parent/community work in collaboration, student achievements, successes and well being are improved.

Congratulations to the following students who have had NO ABSENCES this semester:

An absolutely superb effort!

Please remember that next Friday 10^th July is the last day of school for this term. I would like to wish everyone a wonderful, safe break and look forward to catching up with you next term. Remember that Monday 27^th July is Staff Development Day. All children return on the Tuesday.

We had a great day at our Sports Carnival last Wednesday despite the soggy ground!.

The K/ 1’s are definitely candidates for the 2020 Olympics!!!

Everyone has worked really hard this term, so enjoy the holidays.

Year 1/ 2

Well done to all children who participated in the relays on Friday. We all had a fantastic time. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday. See you next term.

Year 2/3

Year 2/ 3 have enjoyed their Visual Arts, making a bookmark and a platypus mixed media artwork. They have been exploring the past through old toys and household appliances as part of their HSIE studies on past generations.

We would like to thank Mr McCurry for the effort he put into the 2/3 class & wish him well for the future.

Year 4/ 5

Yr 4/ 5 will continue with their timeline of Australian history into next term. The class have decided to include extra ideas to the class project and is already developing into a great display. Students solar system projects are hanging up around the room but you will need to look up to see these. A Homework project will be out ready for next term – keep an eye out.

Year 5/6

During the term Mr Garstang has worked with some students on transition to high school. This will continue next term, with more students receiving this form of support. The feedback from parents has been very good.

TALENT QUEST

All performers keep practising ready for the “Wangi’s Got Talent” at Wangi Workers Club – Thursday 9^th July at 7pm.

All 3 Dance Groups, The School Band and Senior Choir will also be performing on the night. Children to be at the workers club at 6:30 pm dressed ready to perform.

Thank you to Wangi Workers Club for their generous Prize Money Donation.

DANCE

Fantastic effort by our Junior and Senior Girls, they really did a great job. Congratulations.

“NUTRITION SNIPPET

Eat It To Beat IT: Quick & easy dinner with a stack of vegies!

Got home from work late? Kids hungry? Forget take-away. The kids will be fed in less than 10 minutes with this “no-fuss” recipe. You’d be waiting in the pizza queue for longer than that!

Vegie Omelette

1. Whisk 2 eggs with a fork

2. Pour into a small greased frypan

3. Throw in a couple of handfuls of finely chopped/grated vegies (carrot/zucchini/mushrooms/corn/capsicum)

4. Sprinkle reduced fat cheese over the top of the vegies

5. When egg starts to cook, fold the omelette over on itself

6. Voila! Dinner in less than 10 minutes! Serve with wholemeal toast.

Presentation Day 9th Dec – students will be walking to Wangi Workers Club, leaving school at 9:40am for a 10:00am start. NB Band members meet at club at 8:30am with instruments for rehearsal.

Election of School Captains, Councillors & House Captains – next Friday with speeches at Assembly.

Our staff would like to acknowledge that they fully support the NSW Teacher Federation with their actions for the 2 hour Stop Work Meeting on Wednesday. Our staff was granted exemption on the grounds of a long standing prior engagement (Tea Time Concert Rehearsal).

Trivia Night Wangi RSL Saturday 25^th October at 6.30pm Enjoy a night of fun and competition $10 per head with table groups of either 8 or 10. Tickets available from the school office or at the door on the night. Please support us with this fundraising.

Taronga Zoo excursion – next Wednesday. Please, try hard not to bring peanut butter or Nutella to the Zoo. We have 3 students who have severe allergy reactions to these products – not just a rash or a bit of a cough, but real life threatening reactions. Be at school by 7:15am bus leaving at 7:30 sharp. Please collect students by 4:15 pm.
School Supervision starts at 9:00am so students should not be at school before that time. Please help us keep our students safe.
